Packing well makes a huge difference to your experience of ANZAC Day at Gallipoli. The overnight vigil is cold and exposed, and the following day involves a lot of walking between sites.
This checklist focuses on the things visitors most often wish they had brought.
Staying warm and dry
The single most important thing is warmth. Pack thermal layers, a warm jacket, a hat, gloves and a waterproof outer layer, as nights are cold and weather can change quickly.
A sleeping bag or thick blanket and a foam mat or cushion make the long hours sitting at the commemorative site far more bearable.
Food, water and small comforts
Bring water and easy snacks, as access to food is limited overnight. A small torch or head-torch is genuinely useful in the dark.
A fully charged phone or power bank, and a small bag you are happy to carry all day, round out the essentials.
What not to bring
Large bags, alcohol and bulky items are generally discouraged or restricted at the commemorative site. Travel light and pack only what you can comfortably carry.
Check the latest official guidance before you travel, as rules on bag size and items can change year to year.
